German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier and Parliament President Norbert Lammert are set to visit Vietnam this March to boost bilateral ties, the German Embassy in Hanoi said Wednesday.
“The political relations between Germany and Vietnam have become closer since the two countries officially established a strategic partnership in October 2011,” German ambassador to Vietnam Jutta Frasch said at a press briefing.
Right after Foreign Minister Steinmeier's visit in mid of March, Norbert Lammert, president of the German Bundestag will travel to Vietnam to chair a political dialogue between the two countries, said Frasch.
Bundestag is the lower house of the German legislative system.
Frasch said German President Joachim Gauck would invite Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang to visit Germany at the end of the year.
She said that a logo design contest to mark the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic ties would be launched soon.
A number of cultural activities, including the German Festival, would also be held across Vietnam this year to celebrate the event, Frasch said.
