French patrol vessel L'Adroit docked in the northern city of Hai Phong Monday, giving the Vietnamese Navy an introduction to the new modern cruiser.

The docking comes as part of France-Vietnam Friendship Year in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the two countries' establishment of diplomatic relations.

The visit, which will last until June 1, is part of the vessel's six-month mission, which began from France's Toulon cruise port on January 14.

According to the French Embassy in Hanoi, the vessel was primarily engaged in activities to combat piracy and patrol France's exclusive economic zone in the Indian Ocean during its mission.

L'Adroit visited Singapore before arriving in Hai Phong, from where it will visit Jakarta (Indonesia) and return to Toulon on July 15.

During its Vietnam visit, the vessel will invite representatives of the Hai Phong City People's Committee, the Ministry of National Defense and the Vietnam Marine Police onboard. A press conference will be held there.

L'Adroit is a Gowind class patrol vessel..
