France is willing to supply all equipment needed for Vietnam's efforts to modernize its military, French Minister of Defence Hervé Morin said Monday (26 July).
Morin made the statement at a press conference after meetings with President Nguyen Minh Triet and Vietnamese Minister of National Defense Phung Quang Thanh the same day.
He is the first French Defence Minister to visit Vietnam since the two countries established diplomatic relationship in 1973.
France will also help Vietnam train human resources and share experiences with the country in the field, Morin said.
The cooperation in national defense between France and Vietnam is based on shared political views, he said.
Vietnam will become a strong country in the 21st century and play an important role in guaranteeing regional security in the future, Morin stressed.
He said that France will assign delegations of navy, ground forces and arms manufacturers to visit Vietnam next month for talks.
