Vietnam will open an embassy in Norway on the occasion of Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai's official June 12-16 visit to the northern European country.
The foreign ministry informed the press on Thursday that the embassy would be the 89th representative office that Vietnam sets up overseas.
During the visit, Hai will attend a meeting to discuss ways to promote economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, and meet with several major corporations, spokeswoman Nguyen Phuong Nga said.
The deputy prime minister will also visit the European Commission in Belgium.
Also at the press conference, Nga announced that Hanoi will host the ASEAN Seniors' Meeting on July 15-18.
The event will be followed by the 43rd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting and the 17th ASEAN Regional Forum on July 19-23, she said.
Meanwhile, the East-West Economic Corridor Forum will be held in the central province of Quang Tri next Saturday to discuss solutions and policies helping develop the economy, trade and tourism industries in localities along the corridor, Nga said.
The corridor is 1,450 km long with its west end at the port city of Mawlamyine in Myanmar, and the east end at Vietnam's central city of Danang. It runs through several other provinces of Vietnam, Laos and Thailand.
The Asian Developing Bank, Japanese International Cooperation Agency, government agency representatives, institutes, universities and businesspeople from Vietnam and other countries will join the event.
