Dinh Tien Dung, chief of the State Audit, is nominated as the new finance minister at a National Assembly session Thursday.

If his nomination is approved by lawmakers in a vote tomorrow, he will take over from Vuong Dinh Hue.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung told the house that Dung, 52, proved his competence in various posts he held in the government and is a capable financial manager.

Hue was formally dismissed Thursday with a 91 percent vote against him after being unofficially sacked last February.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh has since been in charge of the Ministry of Finance.
