Vietnam demands that China removes plans to exploit the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa islands mentioned in a provincial development project, foreign ministry's spokeswoman Nguyen Phuong Nga said Thursday (March 10).
China has critically violated Vietnam's sovereignty in including plans to strengthen the protection of two Vietnamese islands, and develop tourism as well as build a logistic base for fisheries in the Hoang Sa (Paracel) in its project to develop Hainan province within the next five years, Nga said at a press briefing.
The project was announced by the provincial authorities on Thursday, March 3.
Vietnam also objects to Taiwan's recent firing exercise on Ba Binh island in the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago.
The act has complicated the regional situation and directly threatened Vietnam's marine security, especially boats and ships in the area, she said.
