The Australia government has started receiving applications for this year's assistance for small projects benefiting Vietnam's disadvantaged people and poor communities, the Australia Consulate said in a press release.

Applications for the Direct Assistance Project (DAP) for the financial year of 2011-2012 will be received until October 15 this year, the release said.

DAP is a small sponsorship program conducted by the Australia Consulate, distributing funds given from its government to small development projects to help people and communities in difficult conditions.

The project, in the previous financial year, sponsored AU$165,000 to 27 projects in southern Vietnam, in various sectors including public health, education and infrastructure.
