More than 200 representatives from local and international women's organizations joined the 14th ASEAN Confederation of Women Organizations (ACWO) which opened in Hanoi, Tuesday.
Chaired by Vietnam, the two-day conference will include sessions on enhancing women's economic capacity and roles in the fight against climate change, natural disasters and epidemic diseases.
Seminars on poverty alleviation, food security and safety, labor immigration, and violence prevention for women and children will also be included in the event, which is themed "Enhancing women's effective participation toward a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable ASEAN."
ACWO's General Assembly is expected to pass a resolution on its commitments and efforts to improve women's participation and contributions to each country's development, as well as promote commitments to women's development and gender equality.
Delegates from women's organizations in ASEAN countries as well as China, Japan, and South Korea will be present for the conference.
