The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China have reaffirmed their commitment to implementing a declaration signed in 2002 to promote peace and stability in the East Sea.

At a two-day meeting of the ASEAN-China Joint Working Group in Hanoi, which ended Saturday, the nations showed their support for the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea, the Vietnamese government said in a statement on its website.

The countries also discussed new ways to promote the effectiveness of the Declaration, which they said had contributed to maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Results of the meeting will be reported to ASEAN-China Senior Officials group responsible for implementing the Declaration, the government said.
