Vietnam opposes US censure of local Internet freedom
Ministry of Foreign Affairs' spokesperson Nguyen Phuong Nga
That the US House of Representatives passed a resolution on a domestic matter in Vietnam is not in accordance with standard practice among nations, a government spokeswoman said.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ spokeswoman Nguyen Phuong Nga said the government officially objected to a US House of Representatives resolution passed Wednesday calling on Vietnam to release imprisoned bloggers and respect Internet freedom.

“The information mentioned in the resolution [H.RES.672] is biased and untrue,” she said the at a regular ministry  press conference Thursday.

Nga said the Vietnamese government managed electronic information in a healthy manner and in compliance with Vietnamese laws geared towards stability and development.

Also at the conference, Nga expressed concern about a change to Indonesia’s 2004 Fisheries Law made on September 30, which allows patrol ships to fire on and sink any foreign ships fishing in Indonesian waters.

Foreign fishermen violating Indonesian sea laws need to be dealt with in a humane fashion and in accordance with international laws, she said, noting that the sea borders between Indonesia and some countries had yet to be officially decided and recognizes.
