Vietnam, Japan strengthen technology ties
Vietnam and Japan plan to intensify scientific and technological cooperation, and will build a joint research institute at the Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park near Hanoi.

To advance this agenda, a delegation led by Minister of Science and Technology Hoang Van Phong made a visit to Japan from December 9-14.

It had working sessions with officials from the Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry: The delegation visited Osaka, Yokohama, Kawasaki, and Nagoya – large economic and industrial hubs - and research institutes and production establishments of technology firms like Toshiba, Mitsui and Sharp.

Phong said Japanese scientists, businesses, and authorities were interested in boosting bilateral cooperation in science and technology, and diversifying this cooperation.

Japanese businesses emphasized the need to transfer technologies while making financial investments to improve the quality of products made in Vietnam, he said.

Japan pledged to step up its involvement in three important infrastructure projects in Vietnam - the north-south rail and highway projects and the Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park, he added.
