US NGO donates $7.5 mln to Vietnam Agent Orange victims |
|
The Ford Foundation would give US$7.5 million for a Vietnamese program to rehabilitate Agent Orange victims in the next two years, Dr. Charles Bailey, head of the foundation’s office in Hanoi, said.
|
Bailey announced the sum at a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister Le Van Bang to mark the 10 anniversary of his tenure in Vietnam.
He praised the effective cooperation by the Vietnamese government and other partners in implementing foundation-funded programs.
Bang revealed that the foreign ministry had decided to confer on Bailey the For the cause of Foreign Affairs award.
He appreciated Bailey’s great contributions in mobilizing resources for humanitarian and development projects in the past decade, especially his work with Agent Orange victims.
He expressed the belief that in his new position as director of the US Special Initiative on Agent Orange/Dioxin fund, Bailey would continue to work for the victims, particularly child victims.
