Vietnam joins hands with EU to develop open software
Vietnam and the European Union have announced plans to cooperate for developing free and open source software (FoSS) for businesses.

The “FoSS-bridge over EU and Vietnam” project aims to promote the development of the Southeast Asian software industry in cooperation with Europe.

FoSS project representative in Vietnam, Vu The Binh, said until 2009, as part of the project, training programs would be held for Vietnamese businesses and software associations and initiatives would be considered for cooperation with European partners in open source software.

The use of open source software would help Vietnam’s software industry enhance its IT and telecom models and eventually lower end user costs for government agencies and business, he said.

Capacity Building International of Germany, National Institute for Research Computer Science and Control of France, and the Institute of Information Technology of Vietnam will be the key stakeholders in the program.
