A night concert held at the Hanoi Opera House on January 21 opened a series of events set to take place this year to mark 45 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Sweden.
The show featured Sweden’s renowned band Vocaletters and Vietnam’s pop icon My Linh.
The embassy of Sweden in Vietnam plans to celebrate monthly with at least one event in various categories -- from sports and music to economy and education – aimed at Vietnamese people, especially youngsters.
At a press conference earlier the same day, Swedish Ambassador Camilla Mellander said the relations between the two countries had reached a new level, switching from sponsorship to mutually-beneficial cooperation.
Last year bilateral trade exceeded US$1 billion, two times the figure in 2008.
Mellander said this could be higher given the firm and long-term relations between the two, adding that her country would boost trading and economic cooperation with Vietnam to push bilateral trade up to $2 billion.
Le Linh Lan, deputy director of Foreign Affairs Ministry’s European Department, said the Vietnamese Embassy in Sweden was also preparing a series of cultural and economic events there.
