With average prices plunging 25 percent in the first half of the year, sales of tablets more than tripled year-on-year, international research company GfK said.
Retailers sold 206,000 units for US$94 million, a rise of 160 percent, the Germany-based company said.
Vietnam has also caught the global tablet "craze,” with demand rising in the last four quarters, it said.
Tran Khoa Van, managing director for GfK Vietnam, said the rapid growth in tablet sales is “largely driven” by a downward trend in prices.
Prices dropped to $385 on average from a peak of $512 last December.
Tablets using Android continue to rule the market, accounting for 64 percent of sales, up from 59 last year.
The research company said the marketplace has become more competitive with more brands entering the country.
Less than 10 brands had accounted for a “high proportion” of sales in the first half of last year, but this year that number has expanded to around 16.
The US’s Apple and South Korea’s Samsung continue to dominate the market in terms of both value and volumes.
