A group of 120 Vietnamese nurses began a two year language course on Monday as part of a training project that will send them to work in Germany for the first time.
Jutta Frash, German ambassador in Vietnam, said the language class comes as part of a German government outsourcing program.
Frash said the students were well-trained nurses and now needed language skills before joining the medical workforce in Germany.
The program's main goal is to provide nurses for eldercare.
Frash said Germany is in need of qualified workers not only in healthcare but also in mathematics, information technology, natural sciences and engineering.
Dr Andreas Schneide from the German Agency for International Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit - GIZ), said Vietnam is the first non-European country that Germany has cooperated with in the healthcare field.
