Police in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday detained a man on assault charges for allegedly splashing acid on his neighbors, causing severe burns to four members of one family with which he had a personal conflict.
Lam Tien Dung, 48, will be investigated for “deliberately causing injuries,” the police said in a news website Dan Tri report.
The incident happened on January 18, leaving two parents and their 5 year old son hospitalized with burns and damaged eyes, as they were splashed in the face. Their 13 year old daughter received burns to her legs from slipping on the acid on the ground.
Dung told the police that his father was regularly assaulted verbally by Nguyen Quoc Tuan, which he claimed made his father suicidal, so he attacked Tuan in revenge.
He allegedly splashed half a liter of acid on Tuan and his son as they sat by their front door. Tuan suffered burns over 33 percent of his body, while 12 percent of his son's body was burned. The wife received another splash as she ran downstairs upon hearing the screams, receiving burns over 28 percent of her body.
The police arrested Dung immediately.
An investigation is ongoing.
