Vietnam hospital performs country’s first surgery for bulging eye
Hanoi’s Hospital 103 successfully performed Tuesday its first-ever operations to treat patients with protruding eyeballs due to Basedow's disease.

Doctors performed minor surgeries on patients’ lower eyelids to increase the size of the eye socket.

People with Basedow's disease usually have eyeballs protruding 18 mm or more, compared with the normal 12-14mm, and also suffer from poor eyesight and eyelid retraction.

If not treated on time their eyeballs will protrude more and more that the eyelids cannot shut tight, making them highly susceptible to conjunctivitis.

Reported by Nam Son – Translated by Thu Thuy
