Woman dies after infusion at drug store in central Vietnam

Police in the south central province of Phu Yen are investigating the case of a woman who died shortly after receiving an intravenous rehydration treatment at a local drug store.

Dinh Thi Thu Ha, 42, was rushed to Tuy An District General Hospital on Tuesday morning by family members when she turned purple, lost respiratory function and failed to register a pulse.

According to her family, she had just undergone intravenous therapy (IV therapy) the infusion of liquid substances directly into a vein at the My Loc Drug Store in Tuy An District.

Her family said she had a headache and showed signs of fever Monday afternoon, so they brought her to the store the following morning for fluid infusion.

She began convulsing during the process and was taken to the hospital, just 800 meters away.

However, doctors at the hospital pronounced Ha dead on arrival.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
