Doctors in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang have removed a seven kilogram tumor that was threatening the life of a 78-year-old woman.
The one-hour surgery saved Tran Thi Nghe from the tumor that had been growing in her belly for 27 years, Tuoi Tre newspaper reported.
Nghe was admitted to the province general hospital February 19 with fatigue, vomiting and breathing difficulties due to her swollen belly.
Doctors first planned immediate surgery to save her life but they then decided to have the woman of around 40 kilogram rest to prepare for the operation on February 24.
The family said they brought her to the hospital two years ago seeking surgery but the tumor was not prominent and doctors asked them to wait.
