A woman died soon after a C-section at a private hospital in central Vietnam Sunday, adding to the list of women who have died in labor while giving birth or shortly after.
The victim's son was saved, news website VietNamNet reported.
The report said Le Thi Nguyet, 33, was admitted to Vinh Duc General Hospital in Quang Nam Province Sunday.
But doctors said she was dead in little more than two hours after she was transferred to the operation room.
Her family said they were shocked and have not received a satisfactory explanation from the hospital.
Nguyen was the sixth woman to have died while giving birth in Vietnam since April 20.
On April 20-21, three such cases occurred at hospitals in Quang Ngai, and the northern region's Hung Yen and Bac Ninh Provinces. Two babies died with their mothers and one died several days later.
Another woman died with her baby at Hoc Mon District Hospital in HCMC on April 29, and the latest victim died in Dong Nai Province on May 2.
Direct causes of the deaths were reported as placenta obstructions, amniotic fluid disorders, and blood loss.
But outraged families have been blaming doctors for not acting quickly enough and for not supporting weak mothers through the delivery process.
The hospitals said investigations into the incidents have yet to yield results.
