A 55-year-old man in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang has become the 12th patient in Vietnam to die from the H1N1 influenza virus, also known as swine flu, so far this year.
The man, whose name was not revealed, died on Thursday after one week of treatment.
His family said he developed fever on April 23 but was taken to Tien Giang General Hospital four days later.
Subsequent tests showed he was infected with the H1N1 flu virus.
After his condition got worse, the man was admitted to Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City with high fever, coughing and pneumonia.
Representative at Tien Giang Health Department said one of the man's colleagues was recently admitted to the hospital and tested positive for H1N1.
According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 12 people have died from H1N1 flu in Vietnam this year, newswire VnExpress reported.
