A week-long humanitarian operation conducted by US soldiers to provide medical assistance in Vietnam wrapped up last Monday in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho.
Starting May 10, Operation Pacific Angel provided local people in Phong Dien and Thoi Lai districts with free health examinations and medicines. The soldiers also helped repair local health clinics.
Lieutenant-colonel Blair English said some 1,000 people on average came for health examinations every day.
Similar work was done in the central province of Quang Tri last September.
