Nineteen transgender people in Ho Chi Minh City have modeled for a photo project that aims to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment.
The photo collection “Freedom Expression” was launched by the HCMC-based LGBT network ICS on December 1, World AIDS Day.
The project hopes to spread the message of safe sex, especially among transgender people who face barriers and discrimination, ICS said in a statement.
According to ICS, transgender women are a “forgotten” group with regard to healthcare services, especially HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment.
More than 19 percent of transgender women worldwide live with HIV.
In Ho Chi Minh City, 18 percent of transgender women have HIV, according to ICS.
