The tomato can be used to treat several health problems, in addition to its nutritional values, says Dr. Yen Lam Phuc from the Hanoi-based Vietnam Military Medical University.

The micronutrients, beta carotene, vitamin C and lycopene found in the tomato makes it one of the healthiest fruits to eat.

Beta carotene is known as a compliment to Vitamin A as it can help prevent blindness. Vitamin C is a micronutrient that improves the immune system, and lycopene is very important in preventing oxidization.

Additionally, the tomato contains other nutritional substances like potassium, phosphorous, manganese calcium and folate, Phuc says.

According to the doctor, the tomato is very good for the cardiovascular system because it can reduce the amount of cholesterol in the blood. Yet it is necessary to eat a large amount of tomatoes for a long while. At least 400 grams of tomatoes should be eaten per day for no less than three weeks in order to feel its health-improving effects.

The tomato is also able to significantly reduce the ILGF stimulant, which produces ulcers. The tomato can also reduce the risk of developing some cancers like rectal cancer and prostate cancer.

It can reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer by 19 percent and reduce the size of ulcers by 34 percent. It should be noted, however, that the tomato should be eaten fresh to retain lycopene needed to fight these ailments. And it should be eaten for about eight consecutive weeks to have these desired effects.

The tomato contains a large amount of potassium. 100 grams contain more than 268mg of potassium. That is why it is said to be able to prevent brain strokes. About 400 grams per day should be eaten for a long while before results are produced.

Scarlet fever epidemic is a disease caused by a lack of vitamin C. Its signs include red dots like blood in the thighs, feet, gums and oral mucosa. In serious cases, bleeding may occur in the gums and from the nose.

The tomato contains a large amount of vitamin C. 100 mg of tomatoes contain 12mg of vitamin C. Those who have the above-mentioned symptoms should eat tomatoes often.

The tomato should be eaten fresh or in a freshly-squeezed juice, preventing the vitamin C in the tomato being eliminated by heat. Yet you can cook it if you just need the vitamin A in it because vitamin A is not affected by strong heat.

It should be washed thoroughly because the tomato's resistance is not strong and a lot of plant protection fertilizers are used. Tomatoes should be washed at the running faucet. Or if you want to remove the thin skin easily, you can dip the tomatoes in warm water and quickly put them in cold water.
