Procter & Gamble (P&G) Vietnam announced Monday it would recall two mouthwash products on suspicion of microbial contamination.
The products to be removed from market shelves are Oral-B tooth and gum care alcohol free mouth rinse and Oral-B tooth and gum care mouth rinse (350ml and 500ml).
P&G Vietnam representatives said the move was made after the parent company, the multinational corporation, initiated a voluntary recall of the products, manufactured in Retycol, Columbia, from shelves in Mexico, Chile, Columbia and Canada last week.
According to P&G Vietnam, the voluntary recall is a precautionary step after periodical tests detected out-of-specification microbial levels in the products.
Although it has ordered the recall, the company affirmed there was no safety risk involved in using the product.
However, in a separate statement, P&G admitted that people with "severely weakened immune systems, such as those with cystic fibrosis, may be more susceptible to adverse health effects" from using the mouthwash.
On Monday, P&G Vietnam notified its distributors and retailers that consumers who have purchased the products could return them and get refunded, and that consumers can call 0838225721 or 0838227265 for more information.
