A hospital in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta received within two weeks two patients who were seriously injured after some pranksters released compressed air into their body through their anus, using a mechanical pump.
In the latest case, Nguyen Truong V., 34, who lives in O Mon Dist., Can Tho Town, suffered from puncture wounds in his intestines, Doctor Tran Hieu Nhan of Can Tho Town General Hospital told Tuoi Tre newspaper on Friday.
According to V.’s family, his friends used a mechanical pump at a motorbike repair shop to release air into his anus in an incident described as a “prank,” Tuoi Tre reported.
V. underwent an operation to repair his intestines at the hospital. His condition is stable now and his could digest some food, Dr. Nhan said.
Two weeks earlier, another man, Pham Van Q., 27, was also rushed to Can Tho General Hospital with an inflated belly, according to Tuoi Tre.
Q., who lives in Thot Not Dist., Can Tho, told doctors “other people” allegedly inserted the nozzle of an air pump into his anus and filled his body with air.
Surgeons there cut his abdomen open to expel the gas, closed the puncture, and performed a temporary colostomy.
After two weeks, Q. underwent another operation to remove the colostomy and was discharged, Tuoi Tre said.
The Tuoi Tre report did not say whether any of the “pranksters” were detained or investigated.
