A team of doctors from Italy on a charity mission has examined 130 poor patients, performing surgeries on 75 of them, for free in Dong Nai Province since January 2.
The doctors have performed reconstructive plastic surgeries for cleft lips and palates, scar contractures, skin cancer and hand malformations at the Dong Nai General Hospital.
They have also provided hands-on training, lectures and updates on surgery techniques to medical students.
The team, coordinated by Dr Giovanni Liguori and Prof Paolo Morselli, president of NGO Interplast Interethnos Italy, comprises seven surgeons, three anesthesiologists, and two nurses.
They are also members of the NGO, which has been working all over the world for 25 years, carrying out more than 53 missions and performing more than 7,000 surgeries.
Two sponsors, private companies Pacorini and Datalogic, donated VND70 million (US$3,121) to cover non-medical expenses like patients’ transportation, food and lodging.
JVK Indochina Movers has helped with the transportation of medical equipment and medicines.
