A 52-year-old man infected with the influenza A (H1N1) virus, also known as swine flu, has died in Ho Chi Minh City, the local Department of Health said Monday.

The patient, whose identity wasn't revealed, was admitted to the HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases on Feb 28 with pneumonia and respiratory failure, according to Le Truong Giang, vice director of the department.

Blood samples taken tested positive for A(H1N1), he said.

The man's condition worsened and he died one day after hospitalization. He had been treated for fever and cough at some health clinics for many days before being brought to the hospital, Giang said.

So far this year, swine flu has hit 19 provinces and cities, and three people have died of the disease.
