Two Hanoi police officers' patrol shift early Monday morning became extremely tough with a task they had never imagined: delivering a baby.
The expectant mom Hoang Thi Phuong went into labor when her sister in-law Nguyen Thi Xuan was taking her to hospital on a motorbike, local media reported.
The officers, Nguyen Van Tiep and Doan Thanh Tung, were patrolling a street in Quoc Oai District. They noticed the two women stopping their vehicle.
Tiep asked Phuong, who was in pain, to breathe in and out slowly. His colleague tried to call a taxi.
But when the officers realized that Phuong could not wait any longer, they decided to help her deliver the baby.
Tiep covered the newborn in his uniform shirt. The baby boy and his mother were then taken to the hospital, where the umbilical cord was cut.
“The two young policemen did really well,” said Do Van Vi, director of Quoc Oai General Hospital. “The boy weighs 3.4 kilos, and both mother and son are healthy."
