Hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) claimed 85 lives among 35,623 infections in 59 cities and provinces across the country, the Vietnam Administration of Preventive Medicine announced Thursday.
The administration noted that the HFMD is spreading to more northern provinces.
Task forces from the Health Ministry are still working in "HFMD's hot spots" of the southern region, including An Giang, Dong Thap and Long An provinces.
More task forces were sent to the northern provinces of Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Thanh Hoa and Hoa Binh.
Last week, Deputy Minister of Health Trinh Quan Huan said Vietnam would not label the HFMD outbreaks as an epidemic, given the decreasing number of infections.
Ho Chi Minh City has the highest HFMD infections and death toll, with 24 fatalities among 7,683 cases.
