Work started on a new children's hospital in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on Wednesday.
The 9-storied Can Tho Children's Hospital is built at the cost of VND920 billion (US$45 million).
The hospital will cover an area of 44,000 square meters and will have 500 wards.
It is expected to be completed in 2015 to provide treatment to child patients in Can Tho and other Mekong Delta provinces.
Doctor Le Hoang Son, director of the existing Can Tho Children's Hospital, praised the construction of the new hospital as he said the hospital built in 1979 is being overloaded with degrading infrastructure.
The new hospital will be the biggest children's hospital in the Mekong Delta.
