A VND1.1 trillion (US$57.6 million) general hospital broke ground in the central highlands province of Dak Lak Monday.

Covering 12 hectares and housing 800 beds in the resort town of Buon Ma Thuot, the hospital will meet part of the demand among Central Highlands residents for treatment with advanced technology, according to the Dak Lak Department of Health.

It targets some localities in Laos and Cambodia as well, the department said.

The new facility, expected to be completed in 2013, will help lessen the workload on hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, it said.
