Jean Yves Baudron, a Vietnamese French man, is still holding on to nine race horses at a stable he rented in Hoc Mon District in Ho Chi Minh City’s outskirts, after the city’s only race track Phu Tho closed in 2011.

Baudron said there were around 1,200 racehorses at Phu Tho and about 4,000 in the city and nearby provinces in total. The population has dropped to fewer than 300 as their owners could not afford to keep them and sold them to butchers. Video credit: VnExpress.
