Swedish film director Malik Bendjelloul, whose documentary "Searching for Sugar Man" won an Oscar last year, has killed himself, his family said, triggering tributes for a man who "chased the world for stories to tell." He was 36.
Police said Bendjelloul died late Tuesday in the Stockholm area. His brother later confirmed local media reports that he had committed suicide.
"Searching for Sugar Man" swept major awards from U.S. directors, producers and writers guilds, and won audience and special jury awards at the Sundance Film Festival.
The music video for the first single from Michael Jackson's posthumous album was released Wednesday (May 14).
"Love Never Felt So Good," originally written and recorded by Jackson in 1983, is the debut single for "Xscape," which released Tuesday (May 13). The song features singer Justin Timberlake, who appears in the video along with archival footage of Jackson.
The 67th Cannes Film Festival officially kicked off during an opening ceremony on Wednesday (May 14). The festival this year started with the out of competition film 'Grace of Monaco', which has already delivered a dose of controversy to the French Riviera.
The film has received some scathing early reviews and the Monaco royal family called the film a "farce".
Pop singer Justin Bieber has been accused of attempted robbery, a Los Angeles Police Department official said on Tuesday (May 13), following media reports that he had tried to snatch a young woman's mobile telephone.
Bieber, 20, has not been arrested or questioned according to police authorities. A spokeswoman for Bieber did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
