Vietnamese experts and Japanese colleagues from three universities, Waseda, Sapporo, and Sophia, were digging for the third time this year at the Hoa Diem Relic Site in the central Khanh Hoa province’s Cam Thinh commune.
Site of the Sa Huynh Culture – one of the three cradles of Vietnamese civilization and lasting from 500BCE to the second century CE – Hoa Diem gave up 26 tombs dating back to the second century BCE during a dig in 2002.
The latest excavation has turned up pieces of decorated porcelain, jewelry made of stone, glass, and agate, and iron handheld tools buried in 14 jar-shaped tombs and two earthen tombs.
This was the third excavation in January this year at the site. The work was jointly conducted by local archaeologists and experts.
