Student volunteers offer up ‘free’ tours to foreigners
Saigon – Hotpot, a recently-founded group of students in Ho Chi Minh City have banded together to offer free-of-charge tourist guide services for international visitors to the city.

The group, which organized just two months ago, has already assisted foreign tourists on many tours and charity work.

Tourists were amazed at the friendliness and helpfulness of the group, with some saying they have yet to receive such quality assistance for free in their travels.

All 11 members – able to communicate well in foreign languages such as English, French, Korean and Japanese - want to join hands in developing the national tourism.

The group leader said they wanted to build a ‘brand name’ for Vietnam and introduce the country’s diversified beauty and culture to foreigners.

Coming from the city’s universities such as banking, pedagogy and economy, they joined together at a meeting of international volunteers.

They ‘market’ themselves and get access to international travelers through weblogs, tourism websites and assistance from overseas students.

Currently the group is preparing a “Tet tour and a Vietnamese family meal” aimed to popularize Vietnam’s tradition, customs and special dishes for the Lunar New Year festival to come in mid-February.

Foreigners who are interested in the group’s service can contact Phuong Linh (the group leader) at (+84) 0989967380.
