An Asia Pacific regional meeting of the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) opened on Tuesday in Hanoi, with the theme of "Environment and Development."
The event attracted the participation of around 40 delegates from democratic youth organizations in Asian Pacific countries and around the world.
At the opening ceremony, Nguyen Hoang Hiep, secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union's Central Committee said environmental pollution, global warming, rising sea levels and climate change had resulted in violent human catastrophes, and all countries over the world should cooperate to deal with the problems.
During the four-day meeting, the delegates will review WFDY activities, share experiences on youths' role in environmental protection and report on the development of youth organizations in their countries.
They will also meet with Vietnamese war veterans in Thuan Thanh District of the northern province of Bac Ninh and visit historical and cultural sites in Vietnam.
