Ho Chi Minh City will host a series of solar-powered vehicle races this year to draw more public attention to the application of the energy, news website VnExpress reported Friday.
Participants will design their own vehicles, the best of which will be selected by experts for the races.
The two-kilometer races around Saigon Hi-tech Park in District 9 are expected to last 20 minutes. The track will be filled with obstacles that racers will have to negotiate.
Races are expected to run from September through November this year.
The competition is co-organized by HCMC Department of Science and Technology, HCMC Television and the city Energy Conservation Center (ECC-HCMC).
Anyone living in Vietnam can register for the competition by the end of September. Registration takes place at the ECC headquarters, 244 Dien Bien Phu, District 3, HCMC.
