A Vietnamese youth delegation on Tuesday visited some places in the Cuban capital city of Havana, where the 19th General Assembly of the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) kicked off on the same day.
Nguyen Dac Vinh, First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee, led the delegation to lay a floral wreath at President Ho Chi Minh Statue in Acapulco Park.
Duong Minh, the Vietnamese ambassador to Cuba, and several Cuban nationals also joined the delegation.
The statue was designed by architect Joel Diaz, who is also deputy chairman of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Society.
The delegation also visited Vo Thi Thang Primary School, a place most visited by Vietnamese politicians. The school was named after Vo Thi Thang, a Vietnam War heroine.
The delegation was welcomed by students of the school in the Vietnamese traditional ao dai dresses.
Mirta Gonzalez, the principal, said that the school was named after a Vietnamese war heroine with her iconic smile is a symbol of the brotherhood between Vietnam and Cuba.
She said all students of the school know well about President Ho Chi Minh and Vo Thi Thang.
On this occasion, Vinh presents souvenirs to students and teachers of the school.
The same day, the delegation visited the University of Havana and met Vietnamese students there.
