Vietnamese students win US engineering contest

A group of four Vietnamese students have won the top prize at a college-level engineering competition held by Intel Corporation in the US, Vietnam News Agency reported Wednesday.

Attending the Portland State University through the Intel Vietnam Scholars Program, the students defeated 23 teams from other schools, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, to claim victory at the first-ever Cornell Cup USA.

According to the report, Vo Duy Thang, Nguyen Van Hoa, Nguyen Minh Hung and Ngo Viet Anh won the US$10,000 prize with a device capable of providing detailed drug information to patients and doctors instantly.

Named Prescription Drug Identification, the device is designed specifically for emergency rooms. But it can also be used in doctor's offices and at home.

The contest was held on May 4 and 5.
