Vietnamese students won a silver and three bronze medals at the International Biology Olympiad that ended Sunday in Singapore.
A statement from the Ministry of Education and Training said the silver medal was won by 12th grader Nguyen Thu Trang of the Le Hong Phong School for Gifted Students in Nam Dinh Province in northern Vietnam, according to a government website report.
The bronze medal winners include two twelfth graders and one eleventh grader from schools for the gifted in Nam Dinh, Hanoi, and the nearby Vinh Phuc Province.
Vietnam won three bronze medals at the contest last year, two silvers and a bronze in 2010 and four bronzes in 2009.
The 23rd International Biology Olympiad started on July 8, with 234 contestant students from 59 countries. Four other countries also sent students as observers.
A Singapore student won the Top Gold medal. Both team Singapore and team USA won four gold medals each.
