Vietnamese Internet firm gobbling up former Yahoo! bloggers

Vietnamese Internet company VNG has attracted a substantial number of netizens to its blog service after the US based multimedia giant Yahoo! ended providing such service on January 17.

Yahoo! informed an estimated 6 million Vietnamese bloggers that they would be able to retrieve the content of previous blog posts through March 14.

VNG said that as of January 18, bloggers can log go to http://yblog.apps.zing.vn to transfer posts, comments and pictures to Zing Blog after signing up for an account on the site. The service is free.

Chau Nguyen Nhat Thanh, technical director of VNG, was quoted on the Saigon Times news website as saying many Vietnamese bloggers have transferring their blog accounts to Zing Blog for over a month.

Thanh said VNG decided to promote its blog service as part of a plan to develop its social network Zing.vn the third most popular site of its kind in Vietnam.

Zing Blog has more than two million users and VNG expects the figure to continue expanding, he said.

Apart from blogging, VNG's social network Zing.vn also provides services such online music and instant messaging.
