Vietnam wins 2 silver medals at students physics contest

Two Vietnamese competitors won silver medals at the 2nd World Physics Olympiad for school students that wrapped up in Indonesia Thursday.

Ngo Phi Long from Son La High School in the northern province of Son La, and Dinh Ngoc Hai from Bien Hoa High School in the northern province of Ha Nam won in the event which began December 28 in Tangerang City.

It was the first time Vietnam entered the contest, sending four competitors.

A total of 72 students from 16 countries including Germany, Poland, and Switzerland took part.

A brainchild of Indonesia's Prof Dr Yohanes Surya, the first event was held in 2011. It is distinct from the International Physics Olympiad, an established international contest for pre-university students.
