A team of students from Lac Hong University in the southern province of Dong Nai arrived in Hong Kong Thursday to represent Vietnam at this year's Asia-Pacific Robot Contest (ABU Robocon 2012).

The 16-strong team is among 17 teams from 16 countries and territories across the Asia-Pacific region competing for the Grand Prix in the final on Sunday.

The theme for ABU Robocon 2012 is "In Pursuit of Peace and Prosperity."

It is the third time that Lac Hong University is representing the country at the ABU Robocon contest.

Last year it won the third prize (2nd runner-up) in Thailand. In 2010 it won the second prize (1st runner-up) in Egypt.

Since the annual contest was first held in Japan in 2002 by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union, Vietnamese contestants have made it to the finals seven times, claiming the first prize in 2002, 2004 and 2006 (teams from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology).
