A Vietnamese high school student has won a gold medal at the International Chemistry Olympiad in India.

Three others in the Vietnamese team also won medals at the contest.

A source from the Ministry of Education and Training said the gold winner is Pham Dang Huy, a 12th-grader from Tran Phu High School for Gifted Students in Hai Phong, news website VnExpress reported Monday.

Nguyen Van Phuong and Nguyen Viet Hoang, both from high schools for gifted students in Hanoi, won a silver medal each.

Tran Thi Mai Huong, the only girl in the group from Le Hong Phong High School for Gifted Students in Nam Dinh Province, won the bronze medal.

Vietnamese students had not won any gold medal in previous editions of the contest 2010 in Tokyo or 2011 in Turkey.

Earlier, all six Vietnamese students at the International Mathematics Olympiad 2012 in Argentina won medals, including one gold. Others won one silver and three bronze medals at the biology Olympiad in Singapore.
