Vietnam has successfully produced a bullet resistant vest that matches American performance standards, local media reports say.
The armor is made with aluminium oxide and toughened with zirconia nano particles and dyneema, a gel material from spinning fibers, news website VnExpress said Monday.
It is designed to meet US performance standard of Type IIIA, protecting against 125 gram full metal jacket flat nose bullets at a velocity of 448 meters per second ± 9.1 meters/seconds, and 240 gram magnum semi jacketed hollow point bullets at a velocity of 436 meters per second.
Dr. Ta Van Khoa from the Defence Ministry's Technology Institute headed the armor production project.
Thus far, Vietnam has been importing vests that do not quite suit local people's body sizes, the report said.
