The Education Publishing House has signed a contract with the Advanced International Company (AIC) to publish the first e-textbook for school education (grade 1-12) in Vietnam.

The publishing house is owned by the education ministry. AIC is a Hanoi-based company that has diverse interests. It has real estate operations, sends workers abroad, manages funds and investments, and also invests in education projects.

AIC staff said the electronic English textbook will be available by the year end and the natural science book will completed by August 2013. They will first be used on a trial basis.

E-books on other subjects will be available by 2015, they said.

At a recent conference on basic education, many experts said traditional textbooks have become outdated and will soon be replaced by e-books that offer easier access to knowledge and better interaction between teachers and students.

They said the current model of basic education in Vietnam should be improved. Many graduates still lack practical skills at work because textbooks and curricula have not kept pace with new marketplace demands, they added.
