Two whales have been beached in coastal villages in the central province of Quang Nam over the last few days, the Dan Tri newswire reported Thursday.

On Thursday morning, fishermen in Phuoc Loc Village, Nui Thanh District, found a 300-kilogram whale alive on the beach and took it back to the sea.

The 3m-long whale looked exhausted when it was ashore, the fishermen said.

The whale drifted back onshore shortly after, this time it was dead.

Local authorities said the whale would be buried with traditional rituals in a cemetery earmarked for the giant creatures.

Three days earlier, a 100-kilogram whale had drifted onshore in Loc Dong Village, Nui Thanh District, and later buried by locals.
