A team from a university in the southern province of Dong Nai, on Sunday, beat 33 teams from schools nationwide to win Vietnam Robocon 2010.
As the annual contest's new champion, the LH LED team from Lac Hong University will represent Vietnam at the ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest scheduled for this September in Cairo.
Another team from Lac Hong won third prize together with Hung Yen University of Technology and Education from the northern province of Hung Yen.
Hanoi University of Industry, meanwhile, was announced the runner-up.
The week-long finals in the central highlands town of Buon Me Thuot were themed Robo-Pharaohs Build Pyramids. Competitors had to make robots build assigned parts of three pyramids in sequence without using any binding material between blocks.
This theme is repeated in every round from the preliminaries to the national finals, and then the international contest.
Last year, the SPK-Knight team from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education won the national event to compete at the Asia-wide contest in Tokyo, where they won third prize.
Since the contest was initiated in Japan in 2002, Vietnamese entrants have made five out of seven finals and won first prize three times in 2002, 2004 and 2006.
